Throwback Thursday!

Time to share another Blast From the Past!
Searching through photo archives, I selected snapshots of a few baby quilts to share!
All are made without patchwork,
A great way to practice free-motion quilting!
These were made when it was announced that good friends of ours were expecting twins.
I've gifted a lot of baby quilts over the year's, and always so grateful to receive photos later, of the babies with their quilts!
I stitched rows of 5" sailboats connected by waves on the blue quilt,
You will just have to take my word for it since they are not visible in the photos.
For the floral quilt, I followed the pattern of the print.
Spirals for each of the yellow flowers, outlined the pink posies, and connected them with loopy's.
I didn't even bother with borders for this third quilt:

Yellow flannel backing
Looks like I was stash-busting some JoAnn's fabric for all of these quilts.
I do love the big flowers stitched on this cute little bee print.
I was an Aurifil-lover before it was cool!
I may have to re-visit this pattern one day!

All three of these were made approximately 10 years ago(?), before I was aware of the wonderful online quilting community. Throwback Thursday, hosted by Jenn at Quarter Inch From the Edge, is a great way to share a bit of our quilting history!
Thank you Jenn!

BBD Kaleidoscope, Throwback Thursday

With thanks to Throwback Thursday, we get to share with the world our Before-Blogging-Day Quilts!

Today's quilt was made in 2003BBD!
I figure if you are a fan of BBD quilts, you probably admire BBD photographs as well.
Bear with me Dear Readers, these snapshots are shaky, shady, and, well, shi--y...
Today I thought I would share the quilt behind my avatar, a green kaleidoscope I finished and gifted to a dear friend before I moved away from Eastern Washington. Parting with Cindy made me sorrowful and this quilt helped me express my love for her. She chose the green and rustic colors for her Priest Lake cabin, in Idaho.
I cut strips of fabric and used a template to cut the patchwork. I think they are 8" blocks, but perhaps 10". I was current enough then to have a digital camera, & photos helped with layout decisions.

I'd just begun experimenting with free-motion quilting at this time, and only on small baby quilts. Most of my quilts prior to this were quilted straight-line, with a walking foot. I remember being quite nervous, but I just went for it, quilting large spirals.
Neither Kitty or I had gray hairs then...
Mister Cat passed away a couple years ago and we sure miss him.
I wish I had a better pic of the label! I was still hand stitching letters on muslin as my standard label. It reads, "Made by Heidi, with Love and Gratitude for Cindy"

Throwback Thursday! 100 Quilts For Kids!

Two baby quilts made with stripset bits leftover from quilts I made for my nieces approximately six years ago! Quilted with my Bernina 1020; 40wt thread in an all-over butterfly motif.

Butterfly Twins, 36" each

These will be donated this week to my local chapter of the Linus Project.
I hope that they find twin girls that can benefit from some cuddle-love!

Linking up today with 100 Quilts For Kids hosted by Quilts in the Queue!

Throwback Thursday

Today I have an "Oldie, but Goodie" to share!

Stars in the Cabin, 68" x 94". Completed in the early 90's.

This is a pattern from a long-time hero of mine, Eleanor Burns.
She is, of course, the master of Quilt in a Day!
I have no idea how many days were spent on this, but I do know I have never finished a quilt in just one day! I love this quilt and it has seen a lot of use in my home over the years, mostly it serves as a guest quilt nowadays.

Thanks to Jen, at Quarter Inch From the Edge, I was prompted to pull it out and share with her new link-up party, "Throwback Thursday!"

Look at all those calico's!
I quilted it on my Bernina 1020, using stitch in the ditch - that was all I had the nerve for at the time!
The batting is polyester, so it is quite warm for the climate I am in now. What I love about poly though, is how fresh it looks even after being folded year after year - no creases!
My neighbors old wagon made for a fun time photographing. They purchased it (for a steal!) from an old casino that had closed, The Westward Ho. Just think of the stories it could tell...

Thank you Jennifer, for prompting us to share quilts that were made prior to our blogging years, I am looking forward to seeing what others have pulled from their closets!

I am blogging this morning from Glennallen, Alaska, where I am camping out in a trailer all month!
I have very limited/intermittent internet access and will surely fall behind, but love reading your comments when I do get a chance to catch up online! I wanted to share a view from the store, where I am working hard to help my SIL and her husband with the expansion and Grand Re-Opening, however Blogger is not allowing me to upload photos(?).
Thank goodness my posts for the month are all drafted!
